This weeks thoughts:

So I was thinking abt how there are some 'strangers' that I always see or walk past everyday and although I technically don't know them, it feels weird to say that they're strangers 🤔. I then started contemplating the entire meaning of strangers so I had to write a post on it.

Definition corner/ spiral:

Cambridge dictionary - stranger: 1. Someone you do not know

Cambridge dictionary - strange: 1. Unusual and unexpected or difficult to understand

I feel like the words 'stranger' and 'strange' r probs entomologically connected but when u think abt it if someone is a stranger, it doesn't mean that they're unusual it just means that you don't know them. Which then brings me to the definition of know.

Cambridge dictionary - know: 1. To be familiar with or have experience and understanding of2. To recognize someone or something

Coming back to the definition of stranger as 'someone you do not know', I think the 'know' that is referred to is the first 'to be familiar with' one but then again I am familiar with ppl I don't know.e.g. - I know Taylor Swift (but I don't 'know know' her)

But then this sense of 'know know' is also unclear because no one can 'know know' anyone.e.g. - I know my friends and family (but to what extent do I 'know know' them?)

Sonder (another definition time):

So there isn't an official definition of sonder but it's basically the realization that every passerby is living their own complex life where you are merely a blurred spectator and will probs never cross paths again. It's a kinda sad but also beautiful feeling that is so hard to describe but I think it's nice to ponder on the feeling in the context of strangers.

Me editing: I just realized that this is a made up word 🫣 but it's from a book called 'The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows' that I now rly want to read.

6 degrees of separation:

So this leads me to my next point which is the 6 degrees of separation. It's basically the theory that everyone is connected to everyone through someone else who knows someone else x6. This again relies on the blurred meaning of know which I'm not gonna ramble abt again but I think it's such a cool theory that ig we will never know (not again 🤦) the answer to. Anyway, have calculated that I'm 3 ppl away from Harry Styles (on a 'have talked to them' know) which means I'm like 4 ppl away from a lot of ppl 😊 (and that has made my day).

Side note of my life:

I have decided to learn electric guitar!!?? I rly hope that this isn't one of my hobbies that I always start and never get into but since I already have a ukulele I think I'm gonna master that first before I invest in all the guitar and amp equipment so if I don't get into it at least I don't waste any money.
