Sticky notes
A tribute
This weeks thoughts:
I must be feeling rly sentimental (I’m listening to the Bridgerton soundtrack so that might be adding to the mood) because I had a sudden emotional revelation on the beauty of sticky notes ✌️.
The revelation:
Sticky notes beautifully represent the chaotic, temporary, jumble of fleeting daily tasks and thoughts that make up our daily lives. Unfortunately, like most mundane things, we almost always use them and chuck them out, never to be seen again.
In a dramatically nostalgic way, I think that if we were able to look back on our past (used) sticky notes, they would offer such a deep sentimental insight into our daily lives, in way diaries could not, simply because dairy’s are for our curated thoughts whereas sticky notes are for our fleeting, everyday musings.
The notes app:
Segawyyy, I want to be someone who journals or keeps a diary, I really do. I want to be someone who has poetic thoughts when they sit down with a cup of tea every misty morning, or whenever they see the sun set, but unfortunately I haven’t reached that level of soulful awareness, yet. Instead, whenever I have thoughts that need to be written down or remembered, I use the notes app (in Apple iPhones). These desperate notes app thoughts are usually everyday revelations like things to buy or baby names I like or a few fleeting ideas (see the image below), just like sticky notes.
a snippet of my notes app
Now, when I look back at memories of my life, I don’t think of my life in math’s class or going for a random walk one afternoon, but from this small notes app entry I’m taken back to those places with vivid recollection, as if their brief context unlocks some switch in my conscience. Let me break them down:
10/05/2023 - This is pretty straight forward, but one day I ate a banana and salt + vinegar pringles, and it suddenly tasted like Macca’s fries. Obv I was shooketh and had to write this down, not in an important way, just in order to capture the memory of smth so distinct that I knew I’d forget.
26/05/2023 - In math class, I was overcome with joy when I saw a question involving ‘sin55’ which reminded me of my love for Carlos Sainz (who’s racing number is 55) and I then needed to obsess to someone/something abt the new ‘more Lana’ version of Snow On The Beach, to which the notes app was willing to listen.
3/06/2023 - This one’s kinda deep, but one afternoon I realized I hadn’t been out of the house in at least 24 hours (and I felt so bad) so I went for a walk. Now, there was a guy sitting on his balcony, in one of those swinging egg chairs and I remember thinking to myself how nice it was that people find time in their day to go and sit outside not needing to be occupied by anything else. That was until I realized that he was smoking and thus, I was overcome with a sad sense of irony that I needed to capture.
Circling back, in a similar way to sticky notes, the notes app has allowed me to form a small draft autobiography, through the lens of my thoughts and everyday conscience that’s so charmingly mundane that I needed to write about it.
Hence, my beautifully nostalgic tribute to sticky notes (and it’s digital equivalent).
Side note of pop culture:
Era’s tour ticket sales took up basically everyone’s Wednesday and Friday, with millions of ppl scrambling to secure seats. The 7 shows sold out in a matter of hours, with most ppl missing out (including me 😭) BUT NEVER FEAR; On the 4th of September, Ticketek’s official resale market place will allow ppl to resell Taylor tickets, so get ready for the Ticketek bloodbath 2.0.
My unsuccessful ticket manifestation shrine
Olivia Rodrigo’s released her new single Vampire 🧛 following her announcement for her new album ‘GUTS’ that drops on the 8th of September.
‘Prince’ Harry wanted to make a podcast interviewing Trump, Zuckerburg and Putin on childhood trauma… yeah 💀. Read more abt that here.
Hope you have a sticky note filled week
