Bring back stars on ceilings

Embrace ur inner child

This weeks thoughts:

So I was laying in bed contemplating life since I couldn't fall asleep (as u do), and I realised that I still have the glow-in-the-dark stars on my ceiling. Yes, those glowing stars that I 'helped' my dad stick up there when I was deep in my space STEM girl era at the ripe age of 6. Naturally, I got rly sentimental and philosophical and wondered, how many other girls have stars on their roof? Do any adults? Why? This then spiraled into a deep social commentary, so here we are.

Veering off:

Um can we have a moment of appreciation for the amazing phases/ obsessions we had as kids.

Thank you to all these things for being the highlight of my childhood:

  • Toys like: Furby's, Fairy Doors (fairy doors r such a cute decoration btw), Shopkins, Sylvanian Families, Lego Friends, Beanie Boos, Bop-it

  • Book series like: Grug, Rainbow Magic, Our Australian Girl, Billie B Brown, Treehouse books, EJ12, Weirdo

  • TV shows like: Pingu, Miffy and Friends, Octonauts, Chuggington, The WotWots, Playschool, Shaun the Sheep

  • Miscellaneous, honorable mentions: Smiggle, library kids magazines (like Little Angel and Total Girl), McDonald's birthday parties, fun shaped rubbers (like cupcakes).

Adults vs kids:

Ok so back to my philosophical rabbit hole of thoughts, the thing about children is that if they want smth or think smths cool they're not afraid to tell ppl. As we grow up, however, we start walking a constant tightrope of wanting to love smth but also not wanting to be judged for loving it. And most devastatingly, the little girl inside us starts to move away from outwardly expressing our love of the things that might be considered childlike or fangirly.

Y I think everyone should have glow in the dark stars:

No I don't mean that everyone should put glow-in-the-dark stars on their bedroom ceiling (~Paris~), but I mean that everyone should keep embracing things that they love both from their childhood and their current lives without caring abt judgment. Dress-up, scream to Taylor Swift, eat summer fruits without caring about how messy u get, order the same boost juice drink at every opportunity (mango tango crush is the right answer). I think that it is obviously natural to be constantly changing, but there is an inherently self conscious part of our brains that sometimes makes us invest our time and lives in things that we know is not true to ourselves. Cease whatever it is that u do for other ppl and do whatever u want. Most importantly be obsessed with something. There's smth about being obsessed with a book, sport, food, musician etc. that just brings so much wholesome joy and excitement to life. Whether it be a phase or a lifetime love, obsessions shape our lives in the best ways, from meeting new bffs or growing your fanfic writing skills, so don't ever give that little part of girlhood away.

Side note of a collection I rly hope I have when I get a proper job:

Tea cups. I rly want to have a quirky handmade tea cup collection that has a specific teacup cupboard. The only thing is that they're so expensive but I can dream.

Hope you have an embracive week
